Herrnhut

.

Our time in Herrnhut was a little different from past experiences. This year we split up into two teams, one team did practical jobs around the Jesus Haus, while the other team prayed and interceded for Herrnhut, Germany and the nations.  Then the teams switched around after lunch. The worship/prayer times were amazing! The feast is definitely moveable and accelerating with each meal!

The team served in practical ways just as genuinely and eagerly as in the spiritual side of things, which encouraged all in and around the Jesus Haus. Before leaving for outreach, we had a goal that others would see the love we have for the Lord and each other in our serving. We were excited to take the impartation from Herrnhut to the rest of Germany.

Dresden

.

As we entered into Dresden, the owner of the Hostel at which we were staying, approached Isaac as we were having a time of worship to say that there was something different about our group. This was our chance to live out what God had done in our lives around secular people, day to day.

Our week in Dresden was full of street evangelism and pulling heaven down for a city. We were gripped with the Lord’s heart for the street kids and the youth in Dresden, who were seeking acceptance and identity in all the wrong places. We teamed up with a powerful intercessor, Charlotte (who takes on the bar and party scene on the weekends by relationally evangelizing the young people). Through this connection we met George, an older homeless man from the Czech Republic . He joined us in worship with his flute and we ran into him a few more times on the street that week. The last day we were blessed to worship with George, and the Lord really touched him. He was weeping before the Lord. The whole group was moved to give George something in the natural, as the Lord touched him in the spiritual. Everyone jumped on the chance to give him clothing and Roman tried to even give him the shoes on his feet, but they wouldn’t fit!

Ansprung/Marienburg

.

In Ansprung/Marienburg we had an equally powerful week, but very different than Dresden. It was a time to encourage the body and pour out God’s love for His precious bride. Almost daily we had time to fellowship with the community by eating, worship and prayer. This built many precious relationships that we will always hold dear to us. We also looked for ways to serve Melissa’s family and the city.

At the time in the orphanage. Steven, Denice, and Melissa had the opportunity to pray over a young couple. The young girl had two of her fingers taped together that she had smashed in a door. Our team started to share testimonies of healings they had seen and asked if they could pray over her hand. The girl was laughing some at first, then after the prayer Denice asked the girl how it felt and the girl said “it feels warm.” She began to look a little excited. She moved her fingers around and took off the bandage, wiggling them saying, “I couldn’t do this before!” The boyfriend was standing by the whole time watching all this happen. He didn’t believe her when she said she was healed. He had injured his wrist playing soccer and they asked if they could pray over him too. He said “Why not?” After they prayed, he began to move his wrist all around! He started getting excited when he realized all the pain was gone! The amazing thing is neither of these kids had ever heard of God before, no one had ever shared the gospel with them. So after they had both been healed our team asked the young man, “So what do you think about God, and everything we are telling you now?” His reply was, “I’m thinking about how I am living my life.” Some time late,r the young man gave his testimony before the whole orphanage and many of the children wept before the presence of God.

Berlin

.

The final leg of our trip was in Berlin and we were totally inspired by the prophetic words spoken over Berlin from Cindy Jacobs, Todd Bentley and others for the summer of 2008. We were fervent to see God move and the group didn’t let any wheelchair, blind man, or cast pass by without giving them the opportunity to be prayed for. In our obedience and eagerness,  the Lord was faithful and touched many wrists, backs, necks, etc! We lost count after 27 complete healings! This doesn’t include the numerous partial healings and improvements we saw.

Isaac and some of the student guys were praying for a man who had MS and was paralyzed. The team was stirred that God could do it! The glory came and the man was filled with the fire of God and his body that was used to convulsing was still. He said he felt the peace of God and asked the team to take off the straps over his legs so he could try and get up. We didn’t see the miracle that day, but we know that God was moving in his life.

We also poured out in different churches in Berlin and invited them to really take hold of the promised revival this summer. Not only were we able to testify about God already pouring out His Spirit on the streets, but we were able to encourage them to be part of it!

Arriving back in Cyprus was a feeling of “coming home” after a month away. The second-year students prepared our final Shabbat dinner together and we got ready for graduation. It was a special evening but the start of our goodbyes. Excitement filled the air as we looked forward to going home. It has been a great six months!!!

We (GTS II) arrived in Herrnhut late Friday night to a kind reception, complete
with Challah!! It was a long day of traveling, so the Challah was a special treat. The delay of our plane out of Cyprus caused further delays in our itinerary due to missed trains and buses, but we finally made it about 7 pm! Herrnhut is such a beautiful city and both it and the ministry are blessed with a peace and tranquility that can only be the presence of the Lord. One interesting thing is that it stays light out until almost 10 p.m., so we had the chance to see everything in the light and the sun rises about 4:30 a.m., which was a nice surprise!!!

Saturday we spent most of the day in true “Shabbat” fashion, and then we had a tour of the city. It was interesting to learn all of the history of the area, including the Moravian church movement. We went up to God’s Acre, the cemetery of the believers from this area, which was serene and beautiful - unlike the typical “cemetery” experience. We went up in a tower that overlooks the city for a breath-taking view of Herrnhut and the surrounding area. It was nice to have the historical background/ancient wells information!!

Sunday our group was in charge of the church service, and we really felt the message that the Lord wanted to convey was that of His great love. Matt gave a powerful exhortation about being rooted and grounded in His love (from Ephesians 3:14-21). Many people were really touched, and we were able to pray over many people afterwards.
One group prayed for a family with two children who had been very sickfor many years.
Sunday night we welcomed the GTS I group and Yvita!!! And, ever since, we have been full-swing in a blessed and busy schedule for this Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. We had two teams that alternate practical work with a prayer and worship time (for instance, team A will do a prayer and worship watch from 9:30-12:30 in the morning, while team B does practical work; in the afternoon (from 2-5:30), we
switch!) It is really nice to have the GTS I and II integrated for this time. We have one worship leader and one prayer leader for each of the worship watches. It has been powerful!!!

Each evening from 6-7 p.m., we have a time of worship with the Herrnhut Christian Center congregation and community. Last night was such a powerful time, we didn’t exactly keep to the “German” schedule! We even had YWAMers coming over from the base here to worship with us!

One night we had a special worship meeting with the youth, after the normal 6pm-7pm time. It was great; we released many prayers and words of encouragement over the youth. A girl and her friend came up and wanted to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. One of our team prayed over the first girl and she received the baptism of the Holy Spirit. After she was done, we told her to pray for her friend, who then also fell out under the power of God. It was an amazing time! Revival is springing up in Herrnhut!

As part of our practical service time, we have chopped wood, laid gravel and dirt pathways, stripped paint, and so much more! I think we should change Andrew Dunn’s name to Paul Bunyan, because he is the king of the axe! In the last day and a half, our team has chopped all the wood they could find on their property!!!
(Go team!)

We settled in at Prague on the 5th of June, and went to lead worship at the House of Prayer Prague for a worship watch. Friday morning we went for a tour of Prague, and then had some time with a local pastor and his wife to learn about the spiritual history and climate in Prague. Afterward, we went to lead a second worship watch (with the same House of Prayer but in a different location). It was a blessed time of encouraging the local body of believers and interceding for the area. It was a Czech-speaking watch, (except we did it in English), and we were able to pray over people and give words. One lady, who had pain in her body, experienced fire go through her body when we prayed for her, and was really touched by the Lord. Another man saw the joy of the Lord on the team and asked for prayer to receive the same. We were really blessed by our time there.

Saturday morning we enjoyed the Shabbat, and then met together as a team for a time of corporate worship. We were blessed to participate in a Messianic Jewish congregation (the only one in Prague), and to give the message and share testimonies. There were two Jewish unbelievers there who were able to hear about the Messiah. And, the pastor was also giving a message that particular day about Jews and Gentiles living together in unity, so it was a blessing to be able to impart something from our community. Many people were touched by the Lord!

On a Sunday we had a time of worship and evangelism in a nearby park. We talked to many people, and Corin and David traded their modeling abilities (to a photographer) for the opportunity to pray for her and her team. I guess it was a good exchange (for David and Corin), although we don’t know where their pictures will end up! In the afternoon we led a worship service at Prague Christian Fellowship. The congregation is international and English speaking, with people from all over the world. They are from many different religious backgrounds (many not spirit-filled), so we were really able to pray for many people (we were the ministry team at the end). There were many breakthroughs! Some received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and the pastor’s daughter (who is five) prayed to receive Yeshua in the children’s ministry (with our team.)

We went to a Jewish community, serving and blessing them by visiting with elderly Jewish people at a nursing home. We are excited to meet with Mrs. Cedunova (the former Head Rabbi of Prague’s wife, whom we connected with in 2004) again and keep the connection.

The time in Vienna was very fruitful. We joined with what was the first official multi-Church cooperative movement to evangelize an entire city in Austria. Our team had a lot of boldness and didn’t fear approaching anyone to see if they needed prayer or wanted to hear about Jesus. We were working with Catholics and Protestants and they told us that having a Messianic Jewish group was the “cherry on top” of the already wonderful things God was doing. There were hundreds of thousands of people in town for the Euro Cup 2008, so we were able to reach out to many nations in one city (kind of similar to our time in Berlin during the World Cup in 2006). From Vienna, we headed by train to Bratislava.

In Bratislava we spent three days with many precious Slovak people. Slovaks are nothing like the Czechs! I think this was my ignorant assumption - having never been to Slovakia. They are warm, friendly people who embrace you even if they don’t know you (much more like Ukrainians). Our hosts were young ministers from a charismatic Catholic fellowship to which Father Peter connected us. We were on live, Slovakian television during a university student meeting. We held a one-day conference on the subject of identity in the Father where many people were set free and received inner healing after several of our students shared their personal testimonies. We also had the privilege to meet Father Peter in Hainburg-Austria (only twenty minutes away from Bratislava) to see the house and have a time of prayer with him. This was a very special time with him. The house is amazing and we are still in awe that a man of his age has undertaken such a huge project. It was a blessing to be the first group to visit him there and we know that we will send many teams in the future to help with the renovation and the calling of that place.

Our next two stops were Hungary and Romania. We stayed the night at the Budapest Hungary YWAM base. Those guys were awesome! We rested, toured around the city, had some group time and then headed off to Romania on the overnight train. The train was great, and I have to say that even though it was not the most comfortable way to travel, it was the most fun way. We got stopped by passport control twice in the middle of the night on our way to Romania. It felt like one of those old Cary Grant or Jimmy Stewart movies.

Romania was amazing! It was seven days of intense schedule, and even though it was the final week of our trip, we had such grace and high energy. This was due to those covering us in prayer and in part to the massive amounts of coffee we consumed!

We had so much stuff happen that it would be hard to write it all down, though our wonderful scribes did try. We started each day with praise and worship, then we would move on to lunch and then hit the road. We would come to each village and spend one or two hours going house-to-house talking to people, witnessing and praying for them. Afterwards, we would have meetings at local community centers (large rooms with a stage at one end). We would share our testimonies, perform a powerful dance and preach the salvation message to the villagers. It was amazing. One village we went to was known for its witchcraft and violence. We prayed long and hard in worship that day before we left. Once we got there we saw the most healing and salvations of any of the villages to which we went. Afterwards, we had the meeting at the community center and many responded to the invitation for pray and salvation. In leaving, we encountered some problems with the little (but not-so-small) kids, who were somewhat wild. So, as we tried to leave they began hitting and spitting on some of the guys and throwing rocks at the van as we drove away. Man, it was fun trip! I have to say that even though the Gypsies (proper term is Roma peoples) do not have a lot, they are some of the most evangelistic and on-fire people for God! We were amazed at how boldly they preached the gospel (for what is probably the thousandth time) at some of these villages.

We also got to pray for their youth group that meets every Saturday. The youth were really encouraged, and the theme was fire and stirring the fire of God in our lives. So we did! The team started praying and prophesying over them, and speaking to them about living their lives for God. It was amazing and our team saw prostitutes repent and get saved, some preached to a witch, people got deliverance from depression and other things.

It was such a wonderful time - praise God!

Homeward Bound - Cyprus

We arrived back in Cyprus late at night with no problems A few hours later, Rebekah Joy Heidel was born at about 4:45 am the next morning. We had one day of rest, relaxation and laundry catch-up before graduation and Shabbat. Friday was a wonderful day of testimonies from the trip, graduation, and a barbeque Shabbat.

Hide and Seek

May 29th, 2008

I have heard that the Lord may sometimes ‘hide’ from us, so that we would seek Him.

When we pray for the Lord to come through in a circumstance or to answer a long awaited cry in our heart, it is easy to look at the natural. It is easy to look around us and see the ‘impossibility’ in our circumstances and lose faith.

“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.” (2 Corinthians 4:18)

If we look to what is unseen, we can tap into Heaven, reach up and pull down the things God has for us. Matthew 13:44 says, “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.”

I want to encourage you to fix your eyes on the things unseen, holding in your heart (through faith) those things for which you are standing, and watch God come through for you.

God-Speak: Teacher of the week

Peter Prothero

This week, Mr. Prothero spoke on the writings of Luke. Luke connected prayer, prophecy, and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a “missional” Spirit who gives revelation on the purposes of God, with a focus on the person and mission of Jesus.

Student-Led

May 19, 2008

Sietske led worship this week at Student-Led. God’s love was the theme throughout the songs and His presence filled the room.

Wisam gave the first word of the night. He called it, From the Inside Out.

He challenged us to return to our first love, to be thankful in everything even in the hard times, to persevere, and have a submissive and humble heart before the Lord.

Melissa spoke about the purpose of the process through which God brings us. She spoke over us, “You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood. He called you out of darkness and into His light.”

Abigail’s message was called, The Pearl.

She shared that it’s not about “arriving.” It’s about being thankful for what He has done and jealous for more of the things of God in your life. “When you choose to leave the past behind, it launches you into the future.”

Thank you, Lord! As we are getting nearer to outreach and to the end of the school year, God is not only continuing to speak to us and to come with His presence, He is drawing nearer and nearer, and speaking clearer and clearer.

Community-Life

Over the weekend, the Gateways team held a worship conference for the churches on the island. For three nights we traveled to three different cities in Cyprus and gathered with other believers from all over Cyprus to worship the Lord together. There are some incredible testimonies from this weekend of how God touched peoples lives.

Key2

Two days ago in worship we were impressed to ask the Lord what He wanted to give us. I heard Him so clearly say, “I’m giving you the key.” I thought, “Key to what?” “My heart!” He said.

I asked the Lord how to use the key? I felt He was saying it was whenever I worship Him. That was the key to unlock the things of His heart–true worship. Simple.

I realized I didn’t have to strive or push to reach Him in worship, but the minute I lifted my hands, the minute praise flowed from my lips, I was already ‘there’. He created us with pleasure and He created us to worship Him. I felt the pleasure of God and faith rise within me. I will be taken up to where He is because I hold the key to His heart through worship.

I believe God wants to give all of us the key to His heart. He wants to give all of you something this week, from His very heart. Ask Him and you shall receive blessing from the Lord.

Jon Dunn

This week Mr. Dunn shared about the importance of living our lives with a spirit of excellence. That part of our witness as Christians is being faithful to do the best with what God has given you. We are to do things God’s way, even if the standards of those around us are lower. Also he spoke on looking past offenses and acting in love towards one another, for “How can we touch a nation if we can’t touch one person?”. A Still, Small Voice

May 8th, 2008

dsc_0499.jpg

The rest of the Lord is such a beautiful place to reside. In this place, peace is consistent regardless of situation or circumstance. There are things in our lives that try to weigh us down. However, we have a choice as to how we respond to these trials or the seemingly uncertain things that life can bring our way. First, we must choose to relinquish control and rely on the faithfulness of God. Next, we must stand firm and hold fast to the promises of our heavenly Father and the truth that He stands for. When we do this, there will be no room for doubt and unbelief. Sometimes just taking the time to listen to the still small voice can quiet the questions and brings His peace.

Intro-Kairos

The call of Christ is laid before us, to lay down our lives for Christ, in order to reach others with Christ’s love.John 15:13(ASV) Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. Christ came to show us the example of how we are to live our lives for Him, a life of selfless sacrifice. “Php 2:5-8 “For let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, and took upon Himself the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men. And being found in fashion as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.” Our lives are to be mirrors of Christ example; we who have such an amazing gift of mercy and grace given to us, we are left as debtors to His love.  To quote Dietrich Bonhoeffer Such grace is costly because it calls us to follow, and it is grace because it calls us to follow Jesus Christ. It is costly because it costs a man his life, and it is grace because it gives a man the only true life. It is costly because it condemns sin, and grace because it justifies the sinner. Above all, it is costly because it cost God the life of his Son: ‘ye were bought at a price, and what has cost God much cannot be cheap for us. Above all, it is grace because God did not reckon his Son too dear a price to pay for our life, but delivered him up for us.’”.

God-Speak: Teacher of the Week

Michael and Aimee

Michael & Aimee

.

Michael and Aimee came and taught this week on the “last wave” of missions. They gave a practical look at what it means to be a missionary and live on the mission field. Michael and Aimee have been on the mission field for 19 years as a family. To get to hear their story of how God has used them on the field has been amazing. With simple truth they taught foundational principles of missions. For all those who have a heart for missions and to reach people groups and nations, this was a week of getting to see a true picture of what that means. They spoke of the call that each person has to be a voice to the nations, the duty that each one of us as a believer has, to go out to the lost. It was an eye opening look at the struggles and challenges that missionaries face in different countries around the world. The teaching really helped to bring understanding to each person’s responsibility toward this area of our faith. Michael and Aimee ended the week by praying over each of the students.  It is such a blessing to have the chance to learn and hear from such humble people who have given their lives, comfort and many times their safety for the forward call of God to “Go to all Nations”.

Student-Led

April, 28th

.Roman led us in an awesome time of worship, messianic style this last Monday. The atmosphere was full of joy, and everyone had fun worshiping and giving thanks to God.

dsc07365.jpg dsc07381.jpg

Maggie gave great life lesson entitled “In joy and pain I will count it all gain”. She spoke about how believer need to have a foundation for what they will walk through in life. That the trials and troubles that come our way first go through God and is being used to our good (see the story of Job). He is using these obstacles to teach us and conform us into His likeness. “Php 3:10  that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed unto his death; “He is using these circumstances in our lives to train us, but to also bring glory to His name. We need to ask how we can give God glory in the obstacles we face. It is through these times of hardship that we truly catch a glimpse and learn of God’s goodness, faithfulness towards us who believe in Him. “2Cor 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort.”

dsc07410.jpg

Steven surprised us by sharing a similar message on trails and tribulation. It seems that God wanted to drive the point home to some people. The title was “We can rejoice in trials”. He spoke on Matt 4-5, how it was after Jesus walked through that place of trail and testing that then his ministry started. When we go through adversity it builds endurance, faith, and hope in the goodness of God. We go through hardships in order to bring healing to others, sometimes we have to go through hell in order to bring heaven to others. 2Co 1:4 “who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.”

dsc07420.jpg

Tiffany taught on the importance of choices. She entitled the message “becoming who we are meant to be by the choices we make today”. Son 2:15 Catch the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines; for our vines have tender grapes. It is the little choice that we make that make the difference in our live, and we need to choose to be submitted to God even in the little things. Daniel choose to be faithful in the little things and that was what set him apart. Not to defile himself by eating the meats and wine of the king, but instead living his life in a way pleasing to God. We make those same choices everyday, in what we say about other, in our conduct in day to day life. We are meant to live our lives in a way that is worthy of the calling to which we are called. By are choices we are being taken from our condition (present state) to our position that we have in God. So Be faithful in the small choices.

April 25th, 2008

dscf2481.jpg

“He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

Ecclesiastes 3:11

God is calling us to a higher place as we prepare for outreach. He has stirred our hearts to not be satisfied with yesterday’s anointing or last month’s experience. Daily we contend for a revelation of the reality of His eternal character, with no beginning or no end. This week I challenge you to not limit the Lord. Where we yield, He begins.

This week’s blog is a three-part edition containing both Israel trips and the weekly news from base.

God-Speak: Teacher of the Week

Rick Ridings

Rick and Patty

“After David had served the purposes of God in his generation, he fell asleep.” Acts 13:36

This week, Rick Ridings taught on the importance of being aware of what God intends to do in our generation. As we know, each one of us is created for a specific call and destiny. What applies to us individually is also true for us as part of our generation. There is a specific call and destiny God has set before our generation. The (or “a”) key to discerning God’s will for our lives is to find out His purposes for this generation and be a part of it. Then, once we have received a revelation of God’s purposes, be willing to live a surrendered life to fulfill them.

I think this is really important to keep in mind and it helps expand my worldview. It’s not just, “What does God have for me?” but “What is God wanting to do in my generation?” Asking this question takes me from self-focused seeking to a more servant mentality. It’s also very exciting to step back and look at the big picture!

Student-Led

April 21, 2008

The theme that followed tonight was a heart of love. Josh led worship and we feasted in the Lord’s presence. The Spirit of laughter and joy was released.

dsc07259.jpg

Denice shared how to show the world we are Christ’s disciples by loving one another. Through knowing God, we come to a deep love that brings us to love each other with all our heart. Love is all you need.

dsc07264.jpg

Carrie followed with a word on trusting the Lord. She testified how she took steps in trusting the Lord by coming to Cyprus and how He has shown Himself worthy.

Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.”

dsc07269.jpg

Last, but not least, Betsy brought some deep heart revelation through Ephesians 3. She became undone at the thought of God living inside of her. She said, and I quote, “He had a world without me but decided to make me, even though He knew my sin and how I would fail. But His love was greater; He chose to do it with me.”

Outdoor Pursuits: Capture the Flag

This past Sunday the first-year students played capture the flag. It was an intense game that lasted over an hour. Unfortunately, everyone was so into the game that no one took any pictures. However, we are making up for this by taking pictures from last year’s game and superimposing the faces from the first-year students. ENJOY!

Second-Year Students’ Trip to Northern Cyprus

On Sunday, the second-year class joined with a team from Israel to travel to Northern Cyprus, which is still divided and under Turkish control. This was a pioneering trip for GTS to make connections with believers in the North and to spend time in worship and intercession. The team toured the ancient city of Salamis, which is mentioned in Acts 13:5. In the evening the team visited a church in Farmamgusta which is made up largely of university students from many parts of Africa and the Middle East. Matt shared about Gateways and the vision we carry for God to touch Cyprus and the Mediterranean region. That night we camped out on the beach near the northern tip of the island. On Monday morning we drove out to the very point of the island, directly facing Turkey and Syria. We had a time of worship and intercession for the island and specifically for God to launch people out from this place to reach this entire region with His love. We also declared the prophetic words and promises over this island that God has spoken to Gateways over many years. In the afternoon we spent time on the beach swimming, playing football, and building sand castles. Then we journeyed back across the border to the Greek side of the island.

Passover

dscf2095.jpg

On Saturday evening, the community gathered together to celebrate the first night of Passover. Along with a delicious meal, we recounted the goodness of God to deliver His people from bondage in Egypt, to deliver us from slavery to sin through the blood of Yeshua, and to continue to deliver us from anything in our lives that contends against living as children in His love and freedom.

1st year EIJ Trip

April 25th, 2008

  img_4560.jpg

March 24th

Today we excitedly prepared for our trip to Israel-closing up living quarters and cleaning the kitchen. As the time approached, we grabbed our luggage and gathered on the base. As we waited for the bus to arrive, Matt instructed us what to expect going through customs and gave last minute instructions for travel. The flight to Israel was only about 45 minutes. As we walked through customs, Marie was pulled aside and questioned, and denied entrance into Israel. We were all disappointed, but trusted God’s sovereignty and expected that all we would receive in the Land, she would also. We left the airport for Gilgal in Tel Aviv, a hotel built and run by Messianic Believers. We were all ready for a good night’s sleep!

25th

This morning we began by eating a delicious breakfast of eggs, cheeses, salad, etc. After breakfast, we parted ways with the second year and headed towards old Jaffa. Walking along the sea, we passed the Dolphinarium where a suicide bomber murdered many young people. The site remains pretty much untouched-boarded windows and doors created an eerie sight for us and it was hard to comprehend how the friends and families of the victims feel passing this every day. We continued on to Jaffa where Peter had his vision and Cornelius came to find him. We walked around Old Jaffa, picked up some fresh humus and returned to the beach for a picnic lunch. Some of us went swimming and the water was so refreshing. That evening, we split into groups and walked in downtown Tel Aviv looking for what kind of bargains we could find. When we all met up again, people showed off scarves, jewelry, shirts and hats. For dinner we ate Schwarma and Falafel and returned to the hotel.

26th

Today we packed our bags and headed north towards the Galilee. Our first stop was at Caesarea where Peter preached to Cornelius and his family and the Holy Spirit was poured out on Gentiles for the first time. We did a quick run through of the old city -the amphitheatre and Herod’s palace-took pictures and got back on the bus. Our next stop was Gan Hashlosha National Park, where there was a spring-fed lake overflowing into a stream. It was surrounded by the shade of many types of trees. We ate lunch at this beautiful oasis and most of us swam. The water was clear and the weather beautiful. We continued on after this to do grocery shopping for the week. At the store, we had to go through security checks at the entrance and it was a first for many of us. Five shopping carts and an hour later, we began the last leg of our journey to the Yavne-El. We stayed in villas nestled in the hills of the Galilee. After a macaroni and cheese dinner, we worshiped and spent time together. We began to bond on a deeper level and become more unified.

27th

Today we drove to Tiberias and met Mike Nieber, Jeff Collins and the Netzer team. Our first stop was the museum which holds an ancient boat discovered along the shores of the Galilee during a time of drought. It is estimated that the boat dates back to the first century, and is similar to the boat Yeshua and His disciples would have used. After this we went to the Mount of Beatitudes and read through them together. It was powerful thinking that Yeshua stood somewhere nearby and taught the people; the presence of the Lord was tangible. Our next stop was Capernaum where Yeshua lived for a time. We saw Peter’s home and the remains of a synagogue from that time. After we boarded the bus afterwards, Jahi exhorted us to pray for the sick among us and we began praying for them. Several students had colds/sinus infections. As soon as we prayed, there were testimonies of healing! We made our way south along the Galilee to where it flows into the Jordan River. It was a powerful time as several students were baptized. Here’s one testimony:

-For the past three weeks the Lord has been stripping me of all false identity I have had. I am first His daughter and that is where I must find my identity. Who does He say I am? God is truly showing me what it means to die to myself. To die to the flesh is to die to pride, to identity in anything other than God, and to die to believing lies that I have lived with for my whole life. This baptism is dying to identity in these things and coming up under the resurrection power of Christ and in the identity of being a daughter of God. Father, continue to teach me and show me how to walk in this new identity-of love and acceptance! –Maggie Foster

Friday 28th

This morning we met with the Netzer team and headed just north of the Galilee to hike Yehudiah. After loading up the water and “wet gear” we began, single file down the rocky path through fields. After spring rains, they were green and beautiful, but we were warned not to wander from the trail due to land mines left over from past wars! The trail descended into a valley and we walked along a stream, coming upon deep pools where some of the braver among us decided to jump from a 25 foot cliff into the water. We continued on out of the valley, making our way up the “new eternal stairs” and back to the kiosk area for lunch. It was a three hour hike through the breathtaking beauty of the Galilee. We headed back to prepare to rest and prepare for Shabbat. Many guests came. Jahi prayed that the Lord would come and mess up our schedule. We began with a time of worship on the back patio and His sweet presence surrounded us as we worshipped Him together. People began praying out in intercession, some began crying, and all were touched by the Lord. It was as if He walked among us, sticking His hand inside each of us and stirred. Let’s just say dinner was late! We invited Him and He came and messed up our schedule. Fellowship during and after dinner was sweet.

Saturday 29th

Today we dressed up and headed to Tents of Mercy, Eitan Shiskoff’s congregation on Haifa. Upon walking in we felt the anointing in worship. We joined the second year students and Papa Shish greeted us warmly. We danced and sang, and both teams were given the opportunity to sing over the congregation. Afterwards, we headed to the beach where we ate lunch with the local Believing young adults. Some of us played volleyball and soccer with them, while others sat around and shared their hearts. We were encouraged to get out of our comfort zones and mingle with new people. As a result, Saphraine got to pour into the life of an Israeli young person who needed His touch! After this time, we headed back to the Galilee and the second year students remained in Haifa for a time.

dscf1521.jpg  dscf1544.jpg

31st

We began the day with team worship time from 10 until 12:30 p.m. After a lunch of hamburgers and hotdogs, we headed to Mount Arbel for a short hike. We got off the bus at the top and made our way down, passing fortresses that were carved into the cliff sides by rebels. After the hike, we drove into Tiberias and did some shopping for around two hours. Then we boarded a boat and sailed around the Sea of Galilee. We listened to music for a time and fellowshipped, but ended in worship together. As we sang, all the clouds parted and seemed to group up along the horizon…but over the sea itself there was an “open heaven”!

Monday, April 1st

Today we cleaned our houses before loading and heading towards the desert in the south of Israel, on the Egyptian border. We stopped on the way at Beersheva. Avner Boskey was supposed to give us a guided tour, but something came up and Jahi and Isaac did a good job of filling in. We saw an ancient cistern in the ruins and it was amazing to see how intelligently they constructed this underground water storage system. The walls were hand plastered and the builder’s handprints were still visible…after thousands of years!! After eating lunch, we continued our journey and arrived 2 ½ hours later at Nitzanei Sinai. Avishai Pinhas welcomed us to his home. Even though we were tired from the journey, we were excited to see how beautiful the desert actually was.

April 2nd-Today we woke up around 6 a.m. to eat, pack lunches and begin our first desert hike. We began the hike with a lot of energy. We made our first stop at a small rocky place (kind of like a mini canyon). Before we were released to explore, Avishai exhorted us. I don’t remember everything, but one thing stood out to me. He said, “Everything God makes is good and He made us…so we are good, beautiful, lovely, etc. I’m just agreeing with God when I tell you that.” I really liked that. As the hike continued, we got hotter and more tired and realized we didn’t bring enough water. After a 7 ½ hour hike we were exhausted. After showers and dinner we collapsed into our beds.

April 3rd-This morning we awakened at 5:30 a.m. and ate the breakfast that Jahi had prepared for us. We packed lunch, loaded up, and drove an hour to Sede Boker for another desert hike. It started off slower, since we were all tired from yesterday and loaded up with extra water. Today’s hike dealt with fear in several people’s hearts. As we began up the steep, rocky path it came out that several people had a fear of heights, and didn’t know if they could go on. Avishai started speaking about how there is no fear in God and that He is not the author of phobias…they come from the enemy. In typical Israeli-style (with an “in-your-face” delivery, but from a heart of love and concern), he exhorted them and they overcame their fears and finished the hike up the cliffs! We continued on to a small lagoon oasis where we ate lunch and swam in its frigid waters. Afterwards we made our way back to Sede Boker. Today’s hike was around eight hours…we now have a taste of what it means to wander in the desert!

cimg1404.jpg dsc_0456.jpg

Friday, 4th-Today we packed, cleaned and boarded the bus for the last leg of our journey in Jerusalem. We stopped on the way in Arad and Rick Weineke’s studio. He showed us his bronze sculptures depicting the last seven sayings of Yeshua in relationship with the Holocaust. It is a powerful visual that has already touched Israelis and Holocaust survivors. I know God will continue to use it and other prophetic art to reach His people. Afterwards we continued on our journey. As we ascended the hills surrounding Jerusalem, staff members read different psalms of ascent, penned by David thousands of years earlier. We meditated on God’s word and His faithfulness. The guys were dropped off at their accommodations in the German Colony and the girls at theirs off Hebron Road to get ready for Shabbat meal at Youval and Valerie’s house. Asher, the Revive Israel team, and the Netzer students met us there and we spent the evening feasting and fellowshipping.

5th-Today we traveled to the lowest site on earth-the Dead Sea. Everyone was still blistered, sore and slightly sunburned from our 20+ hike in the desert. We visited Masada first. Some people decided to run, but most of us walked to the top. We learned of the famous last stand of the Jewish people against Roman rule. Afterwards we visited the area where the Qumran scrolls were discovered and ate lunch and then headed over to swim in the Dead Sea. We floated in the salt-saturated water and covered ourselves with the mineral rich black mud. It was a packed, long day but we learned so much history and saw such beauty in the desert.

img_4409.jpg img_4357.jpg cimg1515.jpg

April 6th & 7th-Today was a relaxing day. We worshipped together, spent time shopping downtown Jerusalem and ended the day at Succat Hillel (”Tabernacle of Praise”) for two hours of worship and intercession for Israel. We also spent the next day experiencing downtown Jerusalem, shopping and eating Israeli food.

8th-This morning we had a powerful team time of worship. The Lord really poured Himself out on Sietske, Gwen and Denice. We spent time praying for their callings in taking the Kingdom of God across Europe. We rejoined the 2nd year team for dinner and went together to Succat Hillel for another time of worship. This evening Israeli believers from Tel Aviv and Jerusalem joined us for a powerful time of worship.

dsc07033.jpg

9th-Today we walked to the City of David and visited Hezekiah’s Tunnel. After watching a well-made 3-D movie about the history of the City of David, we walked for 45 minutes through water tunnels that were carved through solid bedrock. Amazingly, the ancient workmen began chiseling through the rock hundreds of feet apart and met in the middle, joining the two tunnels. The resulting water tunnel enabled the city to get water even when under siege by attacking armies. We all enjoyed this experience.

img_4560.jpg

10th-We visited Yad Vashem, the Holocaust museum in Jerusalem. For two hours we walked through, looking at pictures, watching testimonials of survivors and reading the horrific accounts of the Holocaust. It’s hard to describe feelings adequately after being bombarded by such evil…but it was good to see it-to remind ourselves of what’s possible in the absence of righteousness and to know the Lord’s faithfulness through all things. The rest of the day was spent cleaning and preparing to leave for Cyprus.

April 11th-Early this morning, around 1:00 a.m., our bus driver began picking everyone up for the airport. We arrived around 3:30 a.m. and all of us made it through in time to grab quick naps before boarding the plane at 7:00. W were warmly greeted at the base in Cyprus by the community, and pleasantly surprised to find that Faith Collins and Marie Durant had baked cinnamon rolls for all of us. It was a delicious ending to a wonderful journey.

2nd year EIJ Trip

Israel

Tel Aviv

Our journey in Israel began as we landed in Tel Aviv late one night. Navigating our group, through small streets and dark alley ways, to find our resting place for the night, proved to be quite an adventure.  The next afternoon, we headed to Bethlehem.  When we were about 20 minutes out of Bethlehem, we began to pray about our entry into the Palestine territory.  We prayed the rest of the way there, and, hallelujah, our entry was smooth and without complication.

Timo Corin

Bethlehem

We began with an orientation meeting with Iris Ministries, and they told us where we would be going and what we would be doing.  They explained to us that we would be doing practical work like painting and cleaning.  Our first day, we toured Bethlehem, and we visited all the sights of significance there.  The next days, we enjoyed spending time with the people and helping where needed.  The hospitality that was shown to us there in Bethlehem was great.  Some of us painted the house of one of their staff members, Samuel.  A smaller group of us went to the Azzeh refugee camp.  At both houses there was a time of greeting the families, and then we got to work.  At the Azzeh camp Marissa learned that it is not cultural for women to paint, however she taught Wisam the ropes and he painted for the first time.  At Brother Anton’s there was work, laughter and nick names given to some of us,  for instance, Molly- Sister Tall, Julia- Sister Short, Corin-Brother Earring, a few others were Miss Texas, Brother Sister, the Other Sister, Sister Blonde. Very creative, I would say.  Brother Anton had a difficult time letting the girls paint, as it is not culturally acceptable. Nonetheless, we got it done in good time.  At the end of the day, we had a very powerful time of worship.  The Lord led Aaron and Brenda to pray over Matt and Serah.  Then Brenda began to pray over those who felt a stirring about their dreams, and this led into prophetic words for others.  On our day last there, we went the Azzeh camp as a team.  We visited with a few of the families and prayed with them. The presence of the Lord was so sweet.  We made our way back to the hotel for our last night with the ministry.  The evening began with testimonies of the goodness of God and flowed with the movement of the Holy Spirit, there was laughter, tears, and a deepening in each of our hearts for those things that are on the heart of God.

dscf1294.jpg dsc06571.jpg s6300425.jpg

Haifa

We packed up the next morning and headed to Haifa.  That evening we had Shabbat dinner with the Israeli Ethiopian Community at Tents of Mercy, Eitan Shishkoff’s Congregation.  We joined them in a time of worship and prayed over some of the people.  The next day, we went to the morning Shabbat service at Tents of Mercy. After the service, we joined our team of first year students to spend some time of fellowship with the Israeli youth on the beach in Haifa.  It was a quality time of fun, fellowship and ministry.  The next couple of days were spent doing more practical work at Pastor Leon’s Congregation. The building of the congregation overlooks Haifa Bay. Part of the team, spent a day cleaning the windows, and the next day all the walls were covered with a fresh coat of paint. Another part of the team worked cleaning and painting the location for the new soup kitchen which will soon open to serve the people in need here in Haifa. Another part of the team was taken to Nazereth-Illit to serve cleaning for Holocaust survivors. It was amazing to put hands and feet to our love and worship for God by practically serving in this way.

Mt. Carmel, Yavne’el, Golan, Rosh Hanikra, and Akko

After serving in Haifa, we spent three days traveling around the North of Israel visiting different sites and taking opportunities to worship and intercede as we went. On Mt. Carmel we learned about the importance of High Places in the Scriptures and read over the story of Elijah and the defeat of the prophets of baal. It was amazing to stand in the area that these events took place overlooking the valley of Jezrel to one side and the Med. Sea on the other side. For the next three days, we were hosted in two beautiful homes in the country side of the Galilee. This was certainly a place of tranquility and refreshing after a week of hard work. From this place, we ventured out to tour the Golan Heights winery where we saw the wine making process. We learned all about how the varieties of grapes, different seasons, soil variations, and times all help give every wine its own personality. From here, we also took time to hike down into a valley bordering the Sea of Galilee. Normally, along this trail there would be a small river ending in a beautiful waterfall. The lack of rain made the water dry up and the waterfall is no longer flowing. PRAY FOR RAIN! The third day in the North, we went to pray at Rosh Hanikra near the Lebanon boarder and toured the sea caves located there. A railroad used to run through these caves. It carried the main cargo trains from Europe into this region. It was incredibly beautiful. The water was so clear and blue. The lights shimmered on the cave walls, and you could see the ocean floor. This same day, we toured the crusader fortress in a Akko a city on the sea. It was fun to explore the different tunnels and rooms of this place.

Shafar’am

For our
